Sock Hitler in the jaw! submitted by pkooger on January 3, 2012, 10:20am I enjoyed Captain America more than I expected to. In some ways it was a stereotypical comic-book action movie from Marvel, but the 1940s setting and WWII era styling, straight out of a propoganda poster, gave this film a different atmosphere. Hugo Weaving makes an excellent villain, (see the Matrix movies) and everyone knows that the best villains are Nazis, so a Nazi Hugo Weaving was obviously going to be great. Chris Evans did a good job making Steve Rogers (who is not lying when he says he's just a regular guy from Brooklyn, superhero status notwithstanding) seem interesting. Tommy Lee Jones was very entertaining playing that one character that he always plays. I liked it!

Yawn... submitted by crazypockets on June 16, 2012, 3:35pm I'm not a big comic reader, but I do like me a good comic book movie. But maybe I just wasn't in the mood for this when I watched it. I liked the set design and costuming, but the overall story just kind of bored me. I didn't really care about the characters, and I think the most underwhelming thing about it was the villain. Call me crazy, but I like my villains with a little backstory: a touch of sanity mixed with the madness. I get it that he was just supposed to be a Nazi gone even more power-hungry, but it just didn't grab me. I actually found myself fast-forwarding through some of the action....

captain america submitted by honordenver on June 23, 2012, 2:53pm a good action packed movie that i liked a lot

Not Impressed submitted by Maria Maguire on July 6, 2012, 11:53pm Not as good as The Avengers or Iron Man. It didn't have a main conflict and seemed a little thrown together. The WWII setting was neat though. The action scenes weren't that great and the ending was too sad for my taste.

terrible submitted by ftan on July 16, 2012, 4:03pm i didn't enjoy this movie. i watched it after the avengers which was a huge mistake. it just didn't compare. when cpt. america was racing down the streets, it looked so fake. also when they shrunk him down, i just wasn't convinced. the plot was far to predictable. if you haven't seen the avengers and are planning to, i would onyl see this movie to understand the plot better. otherwise, it is a waste of your time.

great submitted by vadnala on June 14, 2013, 2:01pm great movie. i love how marvel adds a historical element to captain america movie

Great submitted by SonicDash on June 22, 2013, 3:24pm Great

Has action, but little else submitted by slugwhisperer on July 12, 2013, 6:13pm I'm pretty sure that this was not based on a true story. It was almost like watching a comic book filled with lots of action, a weak story, and visually stimulating characters with sharp wit.

yuck submitted by hathaway1066 on August 3, 2013, 9:59pm This movie is about an hour too long. It tries to be both an origin story and a story of Capt. A vs. what's his name with the red skull, AND a link to Capt. American in the modern era.

And none of the actors are really very interesting in their roles--none really grabbed my attention.

The only part that was satisfying: when Steve Rogers is still a weaker version of himself but he outperforms the brawnier soldiers.

But this is basically a U.S.A. is good/our soldiers are heroes, recruiting type movie. And that's okay if you don't mind that--but it's not a deep movie at all.

Too long? submitted by tbbrown76 on July 3, 2014, 1:53pm I wanted it to go on. The Red Skull? HYDRA? BuckY?

Great submitted by chioma on July 8, 2014, 1:59pm I think that this is a great movie. I can't believe some people think that it was boring.

Enjoyable submitted by srclark734 on July 9, 2014, 3:18pm I liked it but felt like it could have been done better

good submitted by manz on June 18, 2015, 11:26am I enjoyed this more than I thought. Captain America is still one of my favorite Avengers, and I'm not all that into superhero films.

Campy submitted by kwarren on June 24, 2015, 10:49am Way too much camp for the tone Marvel had set before this movie. The props were awful and the supporting characters are too unbelievable.

two thumbs down submitted by ishhewitt on July 10, 2016, 1:14pm I could not get into this film despite loving the avengers and marvel universe.

ah submitted by Fudail Waseem on July 27, 2016, 1:53pm not that bad

so-so submitted by rachelbenjamin on June 20, 2017, 12:33pm I thought that Captain America was good, but I don't recommend watching it right after watching Wonder Woman. The contrast between them was pretty huge - WW had a story line, CA just went from one blow up scene to another.

Good Superhero Origin Story submitted by Meginator on July 6, 2017, 10:24am I think that this film does an excellent job of portraying a superhero origin story, which is often difficult. By focusing the entire story on Captain America's first battles, Marvel sets up a lot of the subsequent stories in the MCU. The action scenes are well conceived and the costumes and makeup are fantastic. All of the actors embody their roles effectively and make the superhuman characters come to life. In retrospect, this isn't the strongest of Marvel's recent films, but it's still pretty good, and way better than much of what came before.

good submitted by KOH on August 28, 2017, 7:33pm Decent superhero origin movie!

Captain America submitted by SBNB on June 15, 2018, 3:25pm This is a good movie, but I preferred the other Marvel movies I have seen (Thor, the second Thor, The Avengers). But all in all, it's a good contribution to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Sucker for Origin Stories submitted by JarrettB005 on June 17, 2018, 10:55pm I really like origin stories, so I enjoyed this movie, but I think Winter Soldier is better.

what a superhero movie should be submitted by mbleed on June 27, 2018, 11:43am Action, great fight sequences, empotional at times...

Great one! submitted by Rumshaker13 on August 2, 2018, 11:35pm Great marvel movie, very well done, love cap!

Great Superhero Movie submitted by granumm on August 4, 2018, 1:15pm A fitting movie for my favorite Avenger

Captain America, The First Avenger submitted by lstorc on August 6, 2018, 2:52am Worthy of rewatching

Great submitted by anacoluthon on August 21, 2018, 8:43pm A great origin story for Captain America! I was excited to see him join the MCU. And who doesn't love a movie about punching Nazis, scored by Alan Silvestri?

Solid but Not My Favorite submitted by dntanzer on August 30, 2018, 11:27am This is a solid introduction to Captain America with all of his usual cohorts - Bucky Barnes, Peggy, etc. I'm not super interested in historical settings so I was pretty bored with that aspect of it, but I liked the characters.

Satisfying origin submitted by terpsichore17 on August 31, 2018, 12:23am Knowing that Steve Rogers was always ready to throw down, always opposed to bullies, and always interested in fighting to protect instead of being a dancing monkey, makes post-serum Steve make more sense.

It was decent submitted by c_zhang on June 28, 2019, 4:58pm Not as good as The Avengers or Iron Man. It didn't have a main conflict and seemed a little thrown together. The WWII setting was neat though. The action scenes weren't that great and the ending was too sad for my taste.

Ok submitted by pepemama on July 11, 2019, 1:02pm Too much military

I enjoyed it submitted by yufamily on July 13, 2019, 5:01pm Fun and entertaining

Captain America submitted by Clown81 on July 27, 2019, 7:46pm The movie was heavy on military, but love Chris Evans in it.

Entertaining submitted by crp on August 29, 2019, 2:39pm Entertaining; not sure why all the negativity of these reviews. The WW2 backstory was helpful and interesting to watch as well.

Surprisingly Interesting submitted by shapova.354 on August 27, 2020, 1:25pm Not your typical superhero movie. Excellent actors and just the right amount of humor!

Ordinary submitted by mandevil on November 30, 2021, 9:15pm Very vanilla

Meh submitted by courtneyhooper on August 12, 2022, 10:49pm Bunky!

The beginning of Captain America submitted by msi61 on August 7, 2023, 9:49pm The origin story, “I could do this all day” - a classic line.
