"Katie's got it pretty good. She's a talented young chef, she runs a successful restaurant, and she has big plans to open an even better one. Then, all at once, progress on the new location bogs down, her charming ex-boyfriend pops up, her fling with another chef goes sour, and her best waitress gets badly hurt. And just like that, Katie's life goes from pretty good to not so much. What she needs is a second chance. Everybody deserves one, after all--but they don't come easy. Luckily for Katie, a mysterious girl appears in the middle of the night with simple instructions for a do-it-yourself do-over: 1. Write your mistake 2. Ingest one mushroom 3. Go to sleep 4. Wake anew. And just like that, all the bad stuff never happened, and Katie is given another chance to get things right. She's also got a dresser drawer full of magical mushrooms--and an irresistible urge to make her life not just good, but perfect. Too bad it's against the rules. But Katie doesn't care about the rules--and she's about to discover the unintended consequences of the best intentions" -- from publisher's web site.

Another hit from Bryan Lee O'Malley submitted by eminsker on August 3, 2014, 9:06am Another smart, funny graphic novel from Bryan Lee O'Malley. Has the lighthearted tone of Scott Pilgrim, he still has a great knack for fleshing out funny characters, but still maintains its own voice and occasionally veers toward darker themes. Will very likely want to read this one again.

Just out of college submitted by Peter Pasque on July 16, 2015, 9:36am O'Malley likes to write about life just out of college. It's a fun topic full of transition and turmoil. I think this book resonates with a lot of age groups.
Teens/20 somethings who are anticipating college graduation.
20 somethings who just graduated
30+ year olds who have made the transition into adulthood and like to be reminded what it was like being a recent graduate.

All in all this is a fun, light read.

Want to read again submitted by cmay18 on June 29, 2017, 8:12pm I really enjoyed this graphic novel. The art was beautiful and the plot was interesting. I wish I could read this again without knowing what will happen!

Heartwarming submitted by EJZ on June 24, 2018, 9:49am Cute, funny, inventive. Many parts where I chuckled aloud while reading in the work break room. Wish it was longer but it is a nice tidy package as is. A worthy read, like a book you want to give a big hug to at the end.

Charming submitted by Jinxyluis on June 18, 2019, 12:35pm Y'all, this book charmed the pants off me! Katie is such a relatable protagonist for me, and I was endlessly amused by the banter between her and the narrator. These bumps up against the fourth wall really worked, and I'm saying that as someone who is not usually into that. The art is super cute and so is the whole story honestly. Reading this book put a smile on my face, and I'm so glad I picked it up.

enjoyable submitted by kelleyc on June 13, 2022, 8:22am I really liked this, and I'm not even much of a graphic novel fan. It was charming and creative. Definitely recommend.

Keeps me coming back submitted by journeyhawthorne on June 21, 2022, 6:54pm I first read Seconds in my final year of undergrad, and I can't help but pick it up off the shelf and read it again every time I see it displayed somewhere. The art is charming (I really like O'Malley's style!) and the plot runs right into my niche of fantastical elements in a realistic setting. Highly recommended for the 20-somethings out there who feel like life hasn't quite gone the way they were hoping.

I need to read more Bryan Lee O'Malley submitted by wendylv on July 6, 2022, 3:16pm It's very fun to zip through a graphic novel! This was delightful and fun but also full of heart as Katie tries to figure out what she's doing with her life. Two thumbs up!
