Ann Arbor Korean Independent Film Festival Screening: Leafie, A Hen Into The Wild

Friday October 5, 2012: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm -- Downtown Library: Multi-Purpose Room
The Nam Center and the U-M Screen Arts and Cultures Department, in association with the Museum of Modern Art and The Korea Society, presents the Ann Arbor Korean Independent Film Festival October 4 - 7. While many of the films will be screened on the UM Campus, this 2011 delightful animated film: Leafie, A Hen Into the Wild, (which made box office history by drawing the largest audience for a home-grown animated film in South Korea) will be screened at AADL.
Based on a popular children's book, the film (which is not rated) is the story of freedom, will and instinctive motherly love of a hen as she raises an adopted duckling.

2003년 jp4 이후, 5년만의 신보.
래퍼 김진표가 2003년 jp4 이후, 5년만의 신보를 발표하고 대중 속으로 파고들었다. 16트랙 전곡 작사, 작곡, 편곡까지 올 프로듀스를 맡은 김진표는 그의 작업실 ‘소리현상소’에서 거침없는 래퍼의 귀환을 일궈냈다. 3년을 넘게 작업한 이번 JP5는 여전히 저돌적이다. 그러나, 세상을 관조하는 미학의 깊이는 수록곡 면면에서 오롯이 드러난다. 김진표는 이번 음반에 대한 애정의 객관적 정표로 뉴욕에서 브라스 세션을 녹음하고 마스터링까지 함으로써 충실한 사운드를 걸러냈다. 수록곡 전곡을 그 누구에게도 손을 대게 하지 않음으로써 그의 음악적 성취를 충분히 엿보게 한다. 집시풍 사운드부터 트랜스까지 시대를 초월해서 보여주는 여러 가지 음악 스타일은 그의 음악적 스펙트럼을 투영하고 있다. 그 위에 뿌려져있는 다양한 스타일의 랩핑 역시 농익었다는 평가를 아울러 받아냈다. 트랙을 넘겨가다 보면 김진표가 바라보는 세상과 인생에 관한 고민과 성찰이 또렷이 각인되어 있다.

Debut Album from Korean R&B Sensation Dam Bi Son.

CF와 댄스 동영상으로 화제를 모으고 있는 손담비가 힙합 댄스곡 ‘Cry Eye’를 타이틀로 하는 싱글 1집을 들고 가수로서의 첫걸음을 내딛었다. 광고를 통해 대중에게 친숙해진 손담비. 특히 그녀의 비보이 대회 댄스 동영상을 통해 알려진 춤솜씨는 2005년과 2006년 미국과 한국을 오가며 저스틴 팀버레이크, 브리트니 스피어스의 안무를 맡아온 브라이언 프리드만과, 세븐의 ‘크레이지’ 활동 당시 함께 무대에 섰던 클럼핑 댄스의 창시자 릴C, 베이비C로부터 특훈을 통해 갈고 닦은 것. 손담비는 힙합 댄스곡 ‘Cry eye’를 통해 광고나 댄스 동영상에서 보여주었던 댄스보다 업그레이드된, 외국 톱 댄서들로부터 전수 받은 진짜 실력을 선보일 예정이다. 또한 ‘Cry Eye’를 통해서 지금까지 베일에 가려져 있던, 힘있으면서도 허스키한 음색이 돋보이는 그녀의 보이스를 처음으로 팬들에게 들려준다.

‘Cry Eye’는 MC몽의 '180도', 장우혁의 ‘Last Game’, 배틀'Crash'의 히트작곡가이자 이번 손담비 첫번째 싱글의 프로듀서인 장준호가 작곡하고 신화의 ‘Once in your life time'의 작사가 Brian Kim이 가사를 쓴 곡이다. 강한 비트와 반복되는 신디사이저 선율이 귓가를 맴도는, 슬픈 멜로디라인에 손담비의 허스키한 보이스가 잘 어울러진 중독성 강한 힙합 댄스곡. 수년간 댄스와 보컬 트레이닝을 받으며 실력을 다져온 손담비. 섹시 코드로 어필하는 기존의 여가수들과 차별화 된, 강렬한 힙합 음악과 뛰어난 댄스실력과 가창력으로 가요계에 신선한 충격을 안겨줄 것으로 기대된다.

Son Dam Bi is certainly one of the most hyped names to debut in Korea this year. The 24-year-old newcomer has previously appeared in music videos for Param and MYV and various big name commercials, shooting to stardom with an mp3 player CF in which she unleashed her dance moves opposite Poppin Hyun Joon. The buzz around the young singer was so high, MSN Japan made the unprecedented move to give her special coverage before her official debut, closely documenting her rehearsals and training. The video documentary ended up attracting 480,000 visitors in just five days. Son Dam Bi trained especially with a well-known American choreographer in preparation for this album, and her dancing has been so impressive, people are already calling her the female version of Rain!
Son Dam Bi's highly anticipated debut single comes with five tracks that give her ample opportunity to show off her vocal and dancing talents. Hip hop dance number Cry Eye is produced and composed by Jang Joon Ho, who previously wrote hits like MC Mong's "180 Degrees" and Jang Woo Hyuk's Last Game. The lyrics are provided by Brian Kim, who also penned Shinhwa's Once in Your Life.
